www.thataudioguy.net fully supports this peaceful protest. I will be in attendance in my www.thataudioguy.net shirt, come and say hi.

These Liquor licencing laws have to change, not only to protect musicians, but the people who work alongside them.

Keep Victoria the cultural capital of Australia, and let the government know how annoyed you are and show your support!

Taken from facebook:

On the 23rd of Feb, coinciding with the 34th anniversary of ACDC's famous film clip shoot down Swanston St, S.L.A.M (Save Live Australian Music) is organising a protest in support and celebration of the music scene in Victoria where current liquor licensing laws threaten to pull the plug on live music.

We will meet at 4pm outside the State Library and make our way along Swanston and up Bourke St to Parliament House in Spring St where we will have guest speakers from 6-7.

We have organised the Rockwiz Orchestra with guest performers to lead the rally repeating the three chords from 'It's a Long Way to the Top' in the back of a flat bed truck as we follow- ALL 10,000 + OF US- holding placards and instruments chanting down these ridiculous laws!!

Lack of support for this precious industry has gone on for too long!!

This cannot and will not be a case of not knowing what we have until its gone

- WE know it even if our government doesn't!!! -

Celebrate the diversity of Victorian music, this will be a day to remember!!!

Review - Broadcast Translator PDF Print E-mail
Written by Cameron Holmes

For the uninitiated, Rob from Broadcast Audio (http://www.broadcastproaudio.com/) is an absolute saint in the audio industry in Australia, handling many of the channel racking and custom work that a lot of us throw at him with some regularity as well as Pro Audio gear repairs through his "sister company" Pro Harmonic Technical Services (http://www.proharmonic.com/).

All things aside, and aside of him being a brilliant bloke to deal with, he has come up with some solutions to issues that we have all been craving for some time, like this one. The "Broadcast Translator".

This is essentially an "in-line" passive device (although I have been told that there is an active device currently in prototype stage) that essentially enhances the signal by shaving off the harshness. It does this by apparantly running the signal through some trnasformers at untiy gain. Unexciting you say? Hardly.

How many times as a live engineer have you walked into these situations?

  • Walked into a venue and you heart has absolutely sank, due to the desk you appear to have to use for the evening would be more at home as an anchor, with harsh sounding pre's and no headroom
  • You have just hooked up your expensive rack pres to the desk and headed to the stage to set the mics and some idiot has used your rack case as a stand for their beer glass
  • Your two thousand dollar rack pre just went for a drink in the gutter due to some awesome punter knocking it off the pile of gear you have so carefully piled next to your car loading out.

Need I go on? Really? we all love the sound of our favorite "go to" boxes and fix-a-problem gadgets, but essentially we do get concerned taking them to venues due to the environment we work in.
